About Snapmaker Ray Laser Engraver
Snapmaker has unveiled the Snapmaker Ray series: laser cutter and engraver that leverage the OEM’s new laser modules. The laser modules – and, by proxy, the Ray series – come in 20W and 40W versions, and feature a “focus lever” for laser calibration and built-in air assist, which users can control via Luban – Snapmaker’s free, open-source CAM software that we found somewhat wanting during our Snapmaker Artisan review.
Both machines in the Ray series boast a 400 x 600 mm work area – which Snapmaker says is large enough to engrave a guitar – and can be raised using included cylindrical feet to allow for items as thick as 160 mm.
Additionally, CNC-grinded, “industrial grade” linear rails work to boost stability and precision, with a “dust resistant” steel strip further adding to durability. An optional enclosure, meanwhile, clears smoke and dust with an exhaust fan, with a door-detection sensor that automatically stops the laser should the door be opened mid-job.
